So, this is a recommendation should have done ages ago but never really had the time. To say the least, Star Army is an incredibly interesting forum website but before I get into my thoughts, what is it really? Star Army is a long running roleplay forum created in 2002 that allows users to create a large plot where users can come on and collaborate. Think of something like the No Sleep subreddit where users share stories in the Horror genre whereas with Star Army users can collaborate fully into one huge story. It is like a giant writer’s group much akin to Dungeons and Dragons but with a Sci-Fi exploration and military focus. It is such a brilliant, nuanced idea that is incredibly interesting to dive into. There is a lore created by a long list of dedicated members of the forums. It’s a really fun and passionate group of people to hang out with on the website and even in the Discord chat that can be accessed once you sign up for the website (which is free, couldn’t get any better than that).
What is also great about it is that it is in one big shared universe where you can be part of a faction or an adventurer. Everything is part of the Star Army lore and becomes part of that universe making it this a great big piece of canon although this can prove a problem if you are trying to piece together the history of the universe which brings us to some slight problems. Whilst I really think Star Army is a great site and unique idea it has two main problems: 1. Because of how expansive it is, it can be hard to figure out what has been done so you can build upon it or develop something unique to the universe. It also makes it hard to find some of the forums, especially where some are finished whilst some others are part of the way through and based on previously making it hard to find out where to begin especially when you are only beginning to use the site. 2. There seems to be some weird logging in problems that I kept facing frequently. This may be the device I was using but if I were to go out of the site once I was logged in and come back, I would be logged out again. Once I tried to log back in, all my details wouldn’t work even though they were accurate. This is an issue that really bothered me even though I love the rest of the site and found it easy to navigate and use.
All in all, this is a brilliant idea and a well-designed site that I will keep coming back to. I wish I could have recommended it much earlier on the website as this has been requested of me, months ago, but I just didn’t have the time. I highly recommend it even though it has some problems as I mentioned in the last paragraph. If you like Roleplay or writing Sci-Fi, Star Army is the place for you, and I think you’ll enjoy it. It is honestly one of the best roleplaying sites out there, with a very active and passionate community. You can join up using the link here: https://stararmy.com/roleplay-forum/
